This research addresses sediment transport in the ocean and is part of the EuroSTRATAFORM program (STRATA FORMation on continental margins). The EuroSTRATAFORM program involves North American and European scientists and focus on two Europeans study areas: the Adriatic Sea and the Gulf of Lion in the Mediterranean Sea.

The contribution of our research group includes experimental and numerical investigation of sediment failure transformation into turbidity current or mud flow and the study of the geometry deposits resulting from these gravity flows. Our study is motivated by the fact that when there is a sediment failure in the ocean, we still cannot predict whether it would generate a mud flow or a turbidity current. Both styles of sediment gravity flow deposits coexist in the study areas. The results will help to better understand the erosion and deposition processes on continental margins.
